i am trying to take advantage of the new omf import. In testing i exported an omf sequence from avid with embeded media. when i import it into ae, i get the message “AEGP Plugin OMF file is corrupt or missing data. (5027 :: 12)”

i have also tried using linked media, same result. i imported an aaf that was exported from avid and if cam in as a comp. and the comp has all of the layers with handles, but every layer is called placeholder with the missing footage colorbars showing.

has anyone got this to work?

I’ve had success exporting AAFs into AE. AAF import is a new feature in v7 of AE.
If you want to use OMFs you have to use the automatic duck — which we have in house and it has saved us on numerious occasions…

that’s good to hear Nicholastoth. when you export the aaf, did you embed, or link the media?

I believe either way works. It is breifly discussed in the manual. Embedding it is a little easier though because then it can’t get lost in translation….

The names of the layers will be all sorts of stupid though, thats the one part that doesn’t translate. But the footage will be cut up nicely in layers. 0ur editor would export them and then send them to me for animation/AE stuff.

AAF import was actually new in AE 6.5. AE Pro can import OMF media files, but not OMF compositions.
