Hello All. I have a question for you. I am trying to export an OMF but it keeps giving me an error “The resulting file would be greater than 2 GB in size and is not currently supported.” I have never seen this message before and wonder if you have and if so any suggestion on how get around it?

I am working on FCP V 6.0.6 the show is 90 minutes long

    Thanks for your help.

OMFs with embedded media must be less than 2 gig. This is a limitation of the OMF format and cannot be changed. A 90 minute program will probably have to be split into three segments to make three OMFs that will be rejoined in the audio editing application.

I find the easiest way is to duplicate the timeline and delete clips to create the segments. In and Out markers do not have any effect on an OMF export. You either have to delete clips or disable tracks. Don’t just copy paste segments into a new timeline unless you are very careful to paste them at the correct timecode on the timeline, exactly the same as the master timeline.

Break your timeline into sections or do several tracks at a time instead of the whole thing. It can be easily re-assembled in Pro Tools (or whatever you are using)

This is a limitation of embedded OMF. Its a very old Avid format

Hey guys thank you so much to John Pale and Michael Gissing for this info. I had no idea this was a limitation of the OMF.

I will use your suggestions to get around this.

    Best,

    Antonio
