    Hi,

I’ve been trying to get 25P DV PAL OMF files into AE 6.5 from Avid Express Pro HD, with little success. AE doesn’t seem to handle 25P DV PAL OMFs properly – they come out vertically squashed as discussed in a previous post. Now a new question:

In looking for alternatives, I’ve re-captured some 25P PAL DV media within a 25i PAL Avid project, and have imported to AE – with success. Setting AE’s Interpret Footage to “No Fields” produces footage identical to the Avid 25P PAL project’s uncompressed QT export – at least visibly.

So, my question: anyone got any alarms going off saying “Don’t use 25P PAL material in a 25i project/OMF!”. Exactly how different is 25i from 25P PAL, considering all it’s playing out on my 25i monitor nontheless? Anything else I haven’t thought of?

    Regards,

… and if you broadcast progressive footage or CG, it is sent out as two fields … but the two fields are sampled from the same frame: there is no change of motion between them.

    It’s a different look.

    Thanks for the replies.
That clarifies my understanding of PAL 25P perfectly, and answers my workflow problems at the same time.
