what the oldest format I can output in premiere?

I have an old pentium 1 computer , yes pentium 1 , that I want to play videos. The machine seems to be able to play any file that is .mpg and is 1500kbps max. For example , the sample commercial videos on the windows 98 disk play fine and look good.

So what exact codec should I use to get an mpg format and the right audio format? the closest I could get was .wmv but the machine laggs a bit when playing those and the audio doesn’t seem to work.

The best format is going to be the one that doesn’t require a lot of CPU processing. If you don’t need HD, you could try DV.
