My office just bought a Mac Pro for video editing. They used to have a Power Mac from about 1998 and a Media 100 piece of hardware from about the same time. I’d like to possibly use the Media 100 on the new computer, but don’t know what kind of card or even software I would need. I have attached some photos of the things I’m talking about for some perspective. Sorry they’re not better quality.

Is it just too old to use with the new computer, or can I take one of the cards out of the old mac and put into the new one? It would be more clear to me, but none of the pins match, so I’m wondering if there is a connector missing.

After doing some research, it seems the model number is MEDIA100QX/C for Mac. It may have been branded as Commotion LE. Still curious about my above question. Thank you for your time!

Sorry, but there’s no way that card is gonna work in that Mac.

There’s a whole list of reasons why, not the least of which is that the card you have is PCI card and you’re Mac Pro has PCIe slots. PCIe is two generations ahead of PCI.

To see what kind of stuff we (I’m the Product Manager for Media 100 these days) offer that WILL run in the Mac Pro, start at http://www.media100.com and give our sales dept a call.

Whilst we’re on the subject of ‘old’ Media 100 hardware can I ask Wickham whether he expects up grades to 13 and onwards when they come, to support the HDx Board? As he has said previously this board is magic for HD to SD downscales. I have recently conducted exhaustive tests and there is nothing to beat the quality of these downscales. The only one to equal it was from a top of the range HDCAM deck. It is correct, is it not, that downscales within the new Media 100 (AJA board) are done in software?

[Michael Slowe] “It is correct, is it not, that downscales within the new Media 100 (AJA board) are done in software?”

The Aja boards also do have scaler hardware chips, but they are not as expensive as the ones in the HDx hardware.[Michael Slowe] “Whilst we’re on the subject of ‘old’ Media 100 hardware can I ask Wickham whether he expects up grades to 13 and onwards when they come, to support the HDx Board?”

Maybe Wick can say something about future upgrades, but the current V13.0.1 does run on HDx hardware.
