  • Old AE Tutorial – Ice Cube Time Lapse??

About 5 years ago, I was in the process of convincing my company to purchase After Effects. One of the demos I showed my bosses was downloaded from the Adobe website. This demo (which I believe was part of the Total Training series) showed timelapse footage of an ice cube melting on a plate in the sun. The tutorial itself showed how you could even out the colors on this timelapse.

The original clip clearly showed clouds moving in front of the sun, making for a very distracting timelapse. The tutorial showed how you could select a light and dark point and apply that to the clip to even out the colors so the clouds were not as obvious. It was very effective.

And I cannot for the life of me remember how to do it, nor can I find this tutorial clip. I’ve dug through AE several times trying to figure out what this could be but I’ve never been able to completely replicate the effect. Ringing any bells with anyone?

It was the Color Stabilizer effect.
It was introduced in 5.5 if I’m correct, the effect is pretty straightforward, though the curret manual doesn’t offer any nice pictures, perhaps the 5.5 manual did.
