October 20, 2010 at 3:58 pmWhat type of hard drive configuration are you using for your media (video) files?
The only time this kind of thing happens in my experience is when a firewire drive goes offline during editing. If you are using numerous firewire drives daisy chained together you’re much more likely to experience this type of event/issue. However, it’s not one most people encounter a lot.

October 21, 2010 at 12:24 amYou should not be editing video that resides on your system drive, you should have dedicated drives for all audio and video files, but that does not account for the missing file. Have you checked inside the trash?

October 21, 2010 at 1:56 pmHi
I was going to get a dedicated USB hard drive in the near future, but i thought running some Video and Audio of a harbdrive with 1TB of storage would be fine,….if not….why ?
i’ve checked the Trash and it not there either !!!

October 21, 2010 at 6:46 pmUSB does not supply the necessary sustained throughput for video editing without dropping frames, and using your “system drive” is also not recommended for video editing because the system drive is too busy to supply the necessary throughput because it’s doing the tasks necessary to run the OS and applications.
I have no idea where you file resides now, sorry… Have you tried using the spotlight to find it?

October 21, 2010 at 7:45 pmThanks Dave
The loss of media is a bit of a mystery…. so i think i have to keep an eye on this and see if it happens again.
The real worry is if i come back to a project and the whole thing is offline, I’m not sure what the process would be for reconnecting media that has Vanished of the drive!!Thanks for the heads up on the USB drop frame issue I’ll make sure i purchace a external firewire Drvie as soon as i can. until then i gona have to store it on the system drive.
keep an eye out on my post, i’m just getting to grips with FCP and mac’s after using Quantel and Avid for the last 4 years…..it’s a steep learning curve and i’m sure i gona have alot of question.
Thanks again
