  • Offline in Vegas and Online in Avid. Possible ?

    Hi,

This might sound like a silly question but is this really possible ? We have a big client asking for something like off-lining in any codec they are given. So Vegas comes to my mind.

    Cheers !

Why not do the on line in Vegas?
Your biggest problem will be coming up with an EDL (edit list) that Avid can read.
And if the client wants to do “off-lining in any codec they are given”, they stand a better chance of Vegas actually reading the files anyway. It’s my understanding that Avid is pretty fussy about what it can handle.

I afraid the client(a broadcaster) wants to make the Avid Online Editors useful.

So bottomline is that Vegas can’t generate an EDL which Avid Online can read ?

…make the Avid Online Editors useful.

Why? Are they feeling abandoned these days 🙂

I did some checking on the Sony forum and, if you have Vegas 6, try saving your EDL in AAF format. There’s 2 options and I have no idea which one to use.
Also, check out the AAF import actually working? thread, specifically B_JM’s response, as he talks about a newer version of AAF.

Please let us know if this works out for you.

Vegas 6 (current version is 6.0c) can generate an AAF file that any modern AVID can read. Save out both flavors of AAF that Vegas presents in the Save As dialog to be safe- (“Legacy” AAF ensure better compatibility with older AVIDs, “Edit Protocol” is for the more recent versions).

Dr. Dropout, I was hoping you’d show up 🙂
Thanks for confirming this for us.
Waht about B_JM’s comment about you folks using an older version of the AAF Advanced Authoring Format API? Is that still a concern or did 6.0c correct this?
