Offline clips all scattered and not in the right place after moving files from iMac to HD.
Posted by Christopher Evans on January 20, 2014 at 6:37 pmHey guys,
Basically I did a project and all the files were on my desktop in a folder. I then copied that folder and moved it to another hard drive. Of course you would think to simply reconnect the offline media, but after I search for some clips and render, my timeline layout is all wack…clips are in places they shouldn’t be. It’s bizarre.
The layout is the same, just some clips are different than before.
Does this even make sense?
Please help.

January 20, 2014 at 9:06 pmHey Kevin,
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CC and have not done any crazy updates yet.
After I moved my files from my iMac to my external HD, things just got wacky on the timeline and I have no idea why.

January 20, 2014 at 9:53 pmTry a reconnect one more time. Mark the clips in the sequence, right click, and choose OFFLINE – then repeat and choose LINK. Point to the new location of the first clip. All the rest should reconnect automatically.
One reason may be that you have clips with the exact same file name. This will confuse Premiere. You will have to locate those clips (right click and choose to Show File in Finder) and rename one of them to a unique name. When you relink these you will have to uncheck the same name option.

January 21, 2014 at 3:51 pmYes don’t forget with some tapeless media the only identifying factors are filename and location. Move the location and you only have filename as a match. If you have sub folders with files of the same name in each then you will have problems.
It’s not uncommon for some Post houses to use batch renaming tols to rename all the source files prior to starting the edit to ensure all sources are unique. Not an issue with P2 and xcdam etc as they have UMIDs.

There was a bug in 7.0 regarding certain kinds of media. I suggest you update to 7.0.1, 7.1, or 7.2.1. Here are the updates:https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=98&platform=Macintosh
