I have an avi exported out of PPro. When I play it in Nero’s ShowTime, it looks great. If I try to play it in Windows Media Player however, the colors are off, darker and the whole picture is fuzzy. Now if I export the same sequence to a Quicktime mov file, once again, it looks great in Quicktime. Colors are accurate, everything is nice and sharp. So what the heck is going on with WMP? It *used* to work…now suddenly it doesn’t anymore. I already deleted its cache file, no luck.

Is it a codec problem somewhere? Have they gotten corrupted? What’s the scoop?

Nevermind. Fixed the problem by turning off overlays in WMP. Annoying as heck. Tools -> Options -> Performance -> Advanced -> uncheck ‘Use overlays’ under ‘Use video mixing renderer’.

What’s interesting is, if I enable ‘Use high quality mode’, the picture is fuzzy. Leaving it unchecked produces the expected output, nice and sharp. And if I uncheck that ‘Use video mixing renderer’ all together, the colors get whacked again. Really weird.

    Anyway, problem solved.
