    Hi all,

FCP5.1 running on 10.4.8 cutting DV offline from a FW800 G-tech drive, 90% full. Quad G5 with 5.5 gigs ram.

I’m sync-pulling interview material and cutting on to a sequence. As it is in Luxembourgish, I’m using Digital Heaven’s subtitle filter to sub them as we go. All well and good. Subs have been going on fine, playing back fine, no dropped frames. Suddenly, I place a sub on V2 (as I have for the last couple of hundred times) and I get the red render bar. Huh? I’ve checked all settings, made sure nothing is awry – even cut and pasted a title from earlier in the sequence that needs no rendering. No joy. I’m stumped.

Your thoughts, as ever, would make a puzzled man potentially very happy.

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express).

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

I’d also Trash the DH Subtitler’s Preferences.

I think there’s a limit to the amount of real time titles, based on your ram and settings. I’ve seen your issue before. Try rendering a few of them early in the timeline and you may see the red go away.

Thanks Brett, i think this may well be it. I’ve got a lot (subbing 15 minutes worth of talking) and moving to a new timeline cured it… so i think it is a limit. Never come across it before though!

    Ahh, you live and learn.
