    Hey guys,

I’m going to need to upgrade my vidoe card soon, but can’t a straight answer from a ‘so-called’ mac genius at any apple store nor tech support about what limitations I might have.

I have a PowerPC G5 (not intel) dual 1.8 ghz system bought back in 12/03, and it has the nividia 5200 card. I’d like to stay with the nvidia family but need to move up to at least the 6600 geforce card or better in order to handle some new plugins I have. Since I’m a pre-intel model, can anyone tell me if I will run into any conflicts with certain cards?

    thanks!

    Hi
Your Mac has an AGP graphics slot, so newer PCI-Express cards don’t fit.
The 2-slot nVidia 6800 was as good as it got.

Good luck trying to find a 6800 at a reasonable price and with quartz extreme built in. The only Apple certified one I’ve seen is on compusa.com, but it is a store only product. I don’t even think they have any.

I’ve tried so hard to find one that would work with my Powermac G5, all I can find is 6600s and they’re pathetic compared to the 6800s.
