And of course, that’s the base model. Plus a three grand a year software license fee. So, in theory, it could take away the need for ten Mac Pros, but not five, and certainly not one or two.

I don’t know if its perfect, but it might be eventually, though when you begin to factor in the cost of the “low cost” machines, as well, I think the usefulness might be for particularly specialized situations, and not your every-day “multi-editor” facility.

I was talking to a commercials director and a really good cameraman today – not wildly software dudes, and I know this is fishwives tales in a sense – but all they said (pretty much unprompted) was that everyone they knew was talking, or going, premiere.
What I mean is – them not being wildly well versed in what is half going on in software terms, they felt that that was the smart thing to say?

They’re both occasional personal FCP self cutters, have totally ignored and half not heard any of the stuff we’ve been ranting about for the last two years – they just breezily say that they think they are going premiere now.

when it gets to those guys, when they feel that the thing to say is “well you know, I hear it’s premiere now”….
that’s the end of a very, very long chain.

Again, this is for server racks, but I’m sure pieces of this could be adapted for more general use.

It depends on the performance we can expect. If it’s around 16X faster than a $3 000-5 000 system than for some single-system users it’s worth $25 000. Also, this sounds like it could be a terrific add-on for large-scale Anywhere systems.

But yes, it’s use is quite “slim”. I would imagine multi-GPU Titan systems will get you a very very very long way in Premier Pro, After Effects and Resolve. And they “only” cost $1 000 a pop.
