Activity Forums Adobe Premiere Pro NVIDIA Card with Yosemite and Premiere causing major graphics failure

No Andrew, that wasn’t a dream. Actually Kevin from Abobe posted a while ago that NVIDIA apparently found a fix and would deliver it soon. Since then Kevin removed his promising posting. I don’t know why, but since his message appaered and disppeared a couple of weeks ago we didn’t get a fix from NVIDIA. I hope Kevin was right by stating that they are aware of this mess and have actually figured out how to fix this asap

[Ingo Schmoll] “No Andrew, that wasn’t a dream.”

Thanks for letting me know that Kevin pulled teh post, Ingo. I thought I was losing my mind. haha

I know the Adobe guys try to be open and maybe Kevin overstepped his bounds by talking about a 3rd party like that. At least we know Nvidia is aware of it and hopefully a fix will come sooner rather than later. It”s gotta be hard though since Adobe, Nvidia and Apple are all in variables here and sometimes bugs can be persistent little things.

Has anyone had this repair done on their MBP Retina mid-2012?

MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues
    https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

I have zero problems when running Mavericks but with Yosemite I get all the graphics glitches, constant crashing, black screen in premiere, etc etc.

So I’m wondering if anyone with a mid-2012 MBP Retina has had this repair done and if they can comment on whether it fixes the issues? I live in West Africa with no Apple stores so it will be quite a mission for me to get the laptop to London to do this repair.

    Thanks!

It is my understanding that the warranty extension program for the mid-2012 rMBP is a different issue then the one being discussed here. That issue was actually a manufacturing defect with the NVIDIA chip. It would cause the whole screen to go black when the chip got too hot. It didn’t always lock up, but because your screen was off you couldn’t see anything. It did cause lookups and crashes, but the full black screen was the most common symptom. Because it was a hardware issue, the only fix was to replace the card.

The issue we are discussing is software related. It is linked to the use of the CUDA driver from NVIDIA, especially when used with Premiere Pro. Its most common symptom is visual distortion and breakup of the image. The distortion is often limited to the viewer windows inside Premiere, and changes or goes away with as you continue to play the timeline. While this issue does cause system lookups and crashes, they are infrequent compared to the visual distortion issue. As this is software related, a hardware swap will not resolve it, I know, I tried swapping the hardware multiple times before finding this thred and realizing it was software. There is no available fix for this issue, though many of us have had success with uninstalling CUDA. You have to make sure it’s completely uninstalled, looking up and removing all the library folders, and not just removing the preference pane.

So if you think you have the hardware issue, send it in. If you think it’s the software issue, try uninstalling CUDA and seeing if you get any improvement with your problem.

ok thanks … shame, I was hoping this was the magic fix! Actually I can live with the graphics glitches … but my machine does crash a lot when running PP… especially if I’m pushing it with 4k or something render heavy. Maybe this could be linked to the card getting hot and crashing…? M machine does qualify for the repair so I guess I may as well get it done… but I might not rush to it.

So, I guess a downgrade to Mavericks is on the cards. Such a pain though as I stuck it out on yosemite for a few weeks and quite like it (apart from the crashing).

    Thanks again for the advice

    Hi Peter,

Has there been any movement on this? It would great to get the full use of my graphics card by enabling the cuda driver again.

It’s definitely a CUDA issue. I was putting up with it for weeks thinking it was a PPro issue. Then, after getting fed up with the disruptions it was causing, I began googling around and discovered that it was all linked to CUDA. As soon as I removed the CUDA drivers, everything worked fine again.

Still, I’d like to have CUDA back – when it works, it has a bit of an edge over OpenCL

Ok, time for to post my 5 kopek)
I’ve bought (finally!) my new top macbook pro, the one with 512gb ssd, 16gb ram and so on. I was happy as hell, until I started to make my first premiere pro project on it. Of course, I’ve set the project settings to Mercury CUDA. And, dramatical pause – I press enter to render preview my thing. Black scree immediately. Crash. Reboot. Pause. Ok, I thought, shit happens – I did not save the project, so I’ve made all the changes… pressed enter. Same damn thing happened. (And in between I’ve had those glitches which is everyone is talking about here).
    Panic.
Ok google, HELP ME, I’ve just bought a probably world most powerful, and for sure, most expensive laptop, and seems like something is wrong with it, possibly video card fail.
First stupid thing I’ve found is to make the apple “diagnostics”. Thats another funny thing, well, could be funny, if it wouldn’t cost so much money. So diagnostics said to me something like “no errors found”, and next line is “error ADP000” which after another “research” was something like “ok, this means, that you don’t have any errors. but maybe you have”, anyway, I even don’t want to comment on it, ridiculous situation, another surprise by brilliant apple people living, probably, somewhere outside planet Earth.
Anyway, I’ve found this thread and was reading it like some kind of novel, not going straight to end, but reading everything, such a drama appeared in front of my eyes. But till this moment I thought that there is already a solution, but so much time had passed by – and no luck!
So I will try to localise the thing. I noticed, that other applications that are using OpenCL, for instance, are not producing any of that cool glitches as Premiere does. So the thing is going on with Premiere Pro. And probably Yosemite – I remember working on same machine like some months ago, with Mavericks running, rendering some really hardcore AE projects – never had any issues…
Well, I know my post is useless regarding that you guys already mentioned all that, but I just want to express my feelings about all the situation and let everyone know, that somewhere is one more quite shocked person.

ADOBE, NVIDIA, APPLE please come back from your planet Paradise to our poor planet Earth and help people get their jobs done!

I have just started seeing an issue with video rendering in PP CS6 this week.

I thought I had isolated the issue to 2 x slow drives – odd since they are both brand new Thunderbolt drives! I reconfigured them with one connected to the Mac using USB3 instead, but the issue still seems to be the case.

I have never had issues rendering in PP before now. I have used the app for dozens of film projects. My issues are here:

    Glitching after rendering.

This thread has been suggested to me but I am not convinced that I am necessarily sharing similar problems. Either way I need a fix soon.

For what it is worth, while I try to figure out my current playback/rendering issues with PP, I am recreating my edit from an XML file in FCP7. So far it is working fine, with no hint of an issue.
