I have just started editing with V6 on Sony VIO (AR11B). I was setting the laptop up for anticipated mobile / holiday work when the Edit PC died.
I would like to finish my outstanding projects before I start setting up a new PC.

So where’s the nemeric key pad. I have set up couple of keys on shuttle pro but there must be way to get to the nemeric keypad.

BTW has any one tried to set Vegas up in Hurry?
Setting up preferences is not easy. There must be an easier way then trying to remember what settings I had on PC that’s died.

Oh, can someone remind me where’s “show active takes…” option.

    Thanks.

    Regards
    Mahesh

You can get an add-on USB keypad, or use a virtual software-based one such as Touchit.

    Thanks Gary
So it’s nothing to do with graying brain cells. I do need an add-on Hardware/software. Yeh?
No way of nudging events without full key board.

Show Active takes is under the “View” menu.

Most laptops have a “numeric keypad” mode where the numbers 7, 8, 9 are 7, 8, 9. U, I, O would be 4, 5, 6. J, K, L would be 1, 2, 3. (just look at those keys and you should see little numbers on them somewhere – maybe on the front edge). Just use the “Num Lock” option to toggle between them being the numbers and them being the letters.

    Hey Edward
How do you manage to remember all these bits of info.
You are right on both counts.
On Sony VAIO, the legends are in Blue. It is in the manual, I did read it, BUT I did not understand it.

    Thanks again.

I will say it’s a real pain to toggle back and forth. Therefore, the external unit Gary suggested may be very worthwhile. That was one of the selling points to me on my current laptop – it has a numeric keypad built-in!

Yep, you are right. But ext keyboard does defeat the object of having a portable. Besides, my edit desk at the moment is strewn with USB hard drives and broken bits of computers.
It is amazing how dificult it is to transfer from a working PC to a backup system.

Well, you COULD remap the keyboard strokes.

Thanks Gary, I shall look in to that. At the moment, I need to get some projects out of the way and then aquire another PC. 3 key strokes I use most from NUM-Pad are, move event up/down and cross fade. I have those on Shuttle pro now.

Most laptops have a way to set up a numeric keyboard on the regular keyboard. Check your UIO, JKL and M<> keys and see if there are numbers on them. If there are, there is a NumLock key somewhere as well. Press that and you have a numeric keyboard.

Problem: At the same time you disable your above mentioned keys, which includes JKL, which of course makes it a little bit of a pain.
