NTSC DVCam import – scanlines?
I’m working a on a project, where I’m likely to be using source material on NTSC DVCAM ( 720 x 480, 29.97fps). In the end it’ll be mixed with other formats so not sure how it’ll end up, but, any pointers for best way to import into FCP and avoid scanlines as appear at the moment (pic below)? Right now I import using DV-NTSC preset.
The end project will be solely for web streaming.

To judge your image in FCP you should be using an external monitor, if you do not have one you at least have to set your canvas or view to 100%, even if the image does not fit that is the only way you can see the real image.
As far as capturing it, unless you have a DV deck with Analog or Digital outs and a video card to capture to there is no other setting. IF you are using FW you have to use DV preset.

Thankyou for the reply. I am using an external 24″ monitor and viewing the clip at 100%.
Understood about using the DV preset.
Is it actually a case that I have to remove these lines by some processing? Should I be looking into de-interlacing, and is this necessary for web video (or will these lines disappear once uploaded and streaming?)

By external monitor, he means NOT a computer monitor. HDTV or production monitor, as they display interlacing properly. But, you said this is for the web, which doesn’t like interlacing. So simply deinterlace your footage. Or in the sequence settings, set field dominance to 0.

Set Sequence settings field dominance to NONE.
And deinterlace your footage.Or edit interlaced and deinterlace on output.
