Posted by Hasselman Jor on October 20, 2006 at 1:24 pmIs it possible to add a sound that indicates when my project is converted to another format in compression? I want to be able to continue working in another machine..

October 21, 2006 at 12:06 pmI don’t think so, but you can have an email sent when it’s done. So if you were on another machine you could get notification that way. You can set this up from Compressor’s preferences.

October 23, 2006 at 3:38 amYou can use Compressor’s ability to run an AppleScript upon completion of a task to do this. First, make a simple AppleScript to notify you of the end of your compression task.
Open Script Editor and copy/paste the following into a new script:
—
say “compression complete”
—Save it as a script in a convenient location and then switch to Compressor. Tell Compressor to execute the AppleScript you just created by modifying the settings file you are using (click on the Actions tab/chiclet in the Inspector window when your setting is selected in the Presets window).
You can, of course, make this script as advanced as you want. For instance, you could have it set the volume to full before announcing the compression is complete, just in case you had the volume turned down from some earlier task. The sky’s the limit.
Hope this helps,

Now i need to start learning about scripts and how to make them, but that is my problem. At least i know there is a way to do this.

October 25, 2006 at 2:23 pmAlmost yippee!
I followed your instructions, and was able to make and listen the script, added it to compressions actions, checked “execute AppleScript on output”, and chose my script from documents, batched the file -but MBP didn’t make a sound..I wonder if i have to try to add the rising of volume somehow. I think the fault is somewhere else, though.
Can you help?
