I am trying to capture and the window tells me the tape is not threaded. I simply changed tapes and it tells me this. I didn’t change settings, I was happily working on the same project, just changed the silly tape.

I have tried everything, to no avail. I have tried:

    Trashing preferences.
    Restarting FCP
    Re-booting computer
    Turning deck off/on
    Changing tapes
    Checking for lose wires
    Checking settings

Does anyone have suggestions? I am dead in the water!!!

    Thanks,
    Kimberly

I could swear this happened to me a year or two ago with a BVW-70 deck and FCP 4 or 4.5 but I can’t recal what the solution was. What version are you on? What happens if you start a new project and try capturing from there as a test? What format are you in and how much space is left on your drive? I know that last question seems off, but I’ve had problems before where space was low and things started to act funky. Clearning stuff off seemed to make things good again.

Maybe try repairing your permissions as a last ditch attempt?

Your last question was not off.

I am running 5.1.4. The same thing happens if I try to start a new project, or even open an existing project. I am in NTSC Anamorphic and there is over 60% left on my main HD. My other three HD’s have at least 40% on each available. And last but not least, I have reset my permissions and that did not help either. Any other suggestions? I appreciate your assistance.

And what deck is it that you’re trying to capture from?

I know this happened to me before, as mentioned. I could swear it was a setting in FCP. It’ll come back to me at some point. Hopefully before you run out of time.

Same thing happened to me last week. Without the log & capture window open, hit play on the deck and let it run for about 5-10 seconds then hit stop. Reopen log and capture and it should work- at least it did for me.

Don’t use deck control (RS-422 or Firewire) while you are doing this.

If you’re getting a blue screen during playback it might be a camera problem. Did you try cleaning the heads?

    All the best,

In final cut Pro I am having trouble download from an old hi8 camera. I am also using a Sony DVCAM DSR25 wich is then connected to my Mac through the firewall. The VTR reads “Not Threaded”. I’ve tried cleaning the heads, restarting everything, etc to no avail. I can see the video on the camera but not on the VTR. Please help! Thanks!
