  • Not seeing whole project with RAM preview

When I hit NUMPAD 0 to get the RAM preview, After effects just renders a small portion of my project, and not the whole thing. I tried making sure my work area was big enough, and it is set to the whole project. If I put my cursor somewhere else in the comp and hit ram preview, it just takes away from the previous preview to get the new one. Any idea what the problem is?

    Hi there,

RAM Preview uses your available RAM to store the frames of yoru animation.

Thus the more RAM you have the more preview you can get.

How much RAM does your system have?

I have 1 Gig of RAM, and I’m getting less than 2 seconds of preview. I know that’s not a ton of RAM, but I was just assuming it was enough for longer than 2 seconds.

Try reducing the resolution of your comp window to get more length to your ram previews.

Ok, thanks guys. I’ll try all that and see if I can get a little more, though it sounds like one more excuse to finally get a new PC.
