I’m just getting set up with (finally) a system with all the hardware and software liking each other. I’ve got a standard def, 720×486, 29.97fps clip I captured uncompressed that looks just as it should on my large LG LCD display monitor when played through my BlackMagic Media Express. The footage also looks just as it should in the small preview window both in Media Express and in Vegas10. But, when I just play the clip from the timeline with “Video Preview on External Monitor”, set to “Best” & “Full” the footage looks as if it’s displaying every other field or something. I’ve checked general settings, project settings, properties and preferences, everywhere I can think of to look. Does anyone know what might be going on or what I’ve missed?

Try setting your project settings to Progressive scan and interlace type, blend.

Hey Danny… I tried that. No change.

You say you captured it uncompressed. Do you have a raid array to handle the bandwidth needed for that format?

Yes, and playing the clip through the DeckLink player looks as it should, but when I play it through Vegas it looks like half the information isn’t there.

Is your PC fast enough to play the preview? If I recall, V10 automatically degrades the preview resolution to let the processor keep up.

Hey Steve– I would imagine; it’s a brand new turnkey Raid 5 system with 3GHz quad-core processor.

What Steve is saying is default Vegas 10 install preview is set to automaticly lower the quality and higher framerate. Right click in the preview picture and you’ll see where you can uncheck this and make the preview stay at what you set it to.

Hey Danny– Are you talking about “Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback”? If so, unchecked that and it looks the same.

That’s strange. I have the Shuttle and Vegas plays through it fine. I was using HDMI. Can you post a screen pic of what it looks like? maybe we’ll be able to help then.

Well, god knows why this fixed it, but the “Remove field jitter when video is paused” checkbox was checked on the DeckLink preferences. I unchecked it and all’s good now. I don’t have any idea what that has to do with PLAYING video, but whatever works, I guess.
