not enough memory error when importing photos
For some reason, I try to import a whole folder (37 files, 25MB) of photos into a bin, and I get the error message, “There is not enough memory to import the requested file(s)”. Why do I have this problem and more importantly, how do I correct this problem? I’m on a computer at our school here that has 2gb of ram, 120gb of free storage space, and I’m using a portable 160gb hard drive..so I’m not sure why this is telling me I can’t import the photos?

Premiere is a memory hog. It may have used about all that Windows was going to allocate and then you asked for more…much more than 25 MB if the files were compressed jpegs. Restart Premiere and try again.

restarting premiere has not helped. there is some sort of limit, b/c i can import a certain # of photos, but not the whole set. When i went back to adobe premiere 1.5 and imported everything, that adds the entire folder of pictures without difficulty). Is this some bug with adobe premiere pro 2.0? Maybe there is a max amount of data the project folder can hold–which makes no sense since the project window is only bookmarks to where the real file is…. can’t figure this one out.

Are any of the images larger than 4000X4000 pixels (or >4K in either dimensions)?

No, none of the pictures are greater than 4000×4000.
the largest one is 2560×1920. -
Well, Adobe tried to fix a lot of bugs related to stills in 1.5 when they released 2.0 – I guess they created one that didn’t exist while trying to fix others.

hey, I had this problem recently when working with a sequence of images and no amount of windows restarts/cache clearing helped remedy it. I discovered the error Premiere Pro 2.0 reports has nothing to do with the actual problem (go Adobe), at least in my case. I found one image file in my sequence that was corrupt. As soon as I replaced this single image file (in this case it was one .BMP out of 1000 images) Adobe loaded the entire sequence with no more errors.

Here I am with CS4 and still having the same exact issue trying to open a bmp from an old project. Win7 64bit core2quad 8gb ram. Can’t link media, can’t just import it either I get the “Premiere is too retarded to open the most basic windows file in existence” error. Not planning to hold my breath with (finally 64bit) CS5.

I am now having the same problem with Adobe Premier CS5 for mac. Anyone have any ideas?

I also had the same problem importing a .jpg into CS5 Premiere (Mac)
I solved the problem by opening the image in After Effects and saving a frame as a PNG. Next I imported that file into premier, without any problems or errors. Turns out the error has nothing to do with free space.
Very Strange.
