  • Not able to render overnight

This render is expected to take 2+ hours and that’s time I can’t afford to take up while I’m actively at work. This is the second time I’ve tried leaving my render going overnight, but both times I’ve come back and, while my computer’s still on and After Effects is still open, the render looks like it has paused for whatever reason, and continues once the display is back on.

My computer doesn’t have a screen saver set and does NOT go to sleep. The display turns off after 15 mins — do I need to have my display on to have my render continue?

    Thanks

The display going to sleept shouldn’t be an issue (it’s down stream of the video card) but if the computer goes to sleep with it then…. In Windows its in the control panels under power management. Just set the computer to never sleep. If you have a hard drive controller you can tell it to never let the hard drives park too.
ON Mac it’s system prefs/ energy saver – same thing, no computer sleeping.
If you have a virus checker you might want to turn it off for the render is it might be kicking in every night and hogging resources.

It’s been a while since this thread started but I am experiencing the exact same issue. I’m on a iMac (late 2012) running 10.14.3 and CC2019. Computer sleep is set to “Never” and the display is set to sleep after 10 minutes.

My render in AE takes approximately 5 hours to render. The next day the render was at 70 percent and still said 5 hours remaining. After waiting a few minutes it finished the render in 40 minutes. So my machine paused or fell a sleep after 3-4 hours.

    Any updates on this?

In Mojave/High Sierra (which I actually don’t recommend you use, since it’s buggy), I use:

    Apple Menu –> Lock Screen

I also run Caffeine just in case:

You are still working on Sierra? Did not know Mojave or High Sierra were that buggy. I must say I ran in to serveral kind of problems lately so maybe I can blame Mojave ☺

I will give Caffeine a try. Thanks for your answer.

So I installed Amphetamine (Caffeine doesn’t work on Mojave). This worked for a week, but now the computer falls a sleep again while rendering and running Amphetamine. I have the feeling my iMac has a hardware related issue.
