im an after effectee trying to add some 3d to my skill set so I apologize for the nooberton question — I have a model of a heart that I cut up with a cloner object rectangle. for some reason the material I have given to this cut heart doesnt seem to be taking. i’ve put the material on the heart object – no go, on the boolean – no go, the cloner object – no go, the rectangle – no go. Ive tried putting the material on all four at the same time — no go.

I’ve included a picture as you can see the inner non cut heart takes the material the outer cut heart doesnt

    what am i doing wrong?

All the the objects in the boolean need to be closed (no holes). Its not showing up cause theres geometry to put the material on.

It looks like you have a heart in a heart, you have cut the outside heart so we can see the inner heart. Is that what you want or something different? The method is going to be different if you want some other look.

I have posted to youtube a sample of the basic effect im going for

the cutter cubes move across creating a cool texture over the heart below.

Is the video you posted what you are trying to duplicate? Your image above looks pretty good. It sounds like you are trying to apply a texture to the outer shape and it’s not working?

    See the attached image…

both image and video are mine — but as you will notice the outside boolean is still gray instead of the red texture that put placed on it. i have mine setup just like yours but for some reason my boolean just keeps coming up gray:(

Try selecting your texture tag and see if it is set to:

    Projection: UVW Mapping
    Side: Both

When I switched my side to Back, mine turns gray as well.
