None vrs uncompressed
Can anyone tell me the difference between uncompressed footage and “none” compressed. A friend has given me some footage he color corrected in After Effects. He output it as “none” compressed footage and then told me that it was uncompressed. When I brought it into FCP it had to be rendered. That’s when I noticed that it was “none” compressed. I changed the sequence settings and tried to view the footage. It played fine in FCP but couldn’t be output to my monitor through the AJA IO we use.
Can anyone tell me if there will be any loss if I convert everything to uncompressed 10 bit, or if there is a way to get the AJA to play the “none” compressed footage.

None is strictly a transcoding CODEC. It is not meant to be played back in real time. None is a 4:4:4 and is only an 8 bit codec while 10 bit uncompressed is 4:2:2 and has a better bit depth.

Using none or annimation is overkill. You will get better results and save a ton of disk space using Sheer Video Codec http://www.bitjazz.com and you can play this back in RT with FCP.
