Hi,
In attempting to relink after an upgrade. I find that the file names i’m looking for have had characters in their names changed so they aren’t recognized. The changed characters are underscores _ instead of colons : and an added (id). How can I fix this?

I’m not sure you can. That’s how FCPX handles file names if you choose to let it manage your media. If this is an upgrade from a really old version of FCPX (pre 10.2), updating libraries was a bit hit and miss as far as connecting media goes.
If it’s purely a naming issue, my thought would be to pull the correctly named original media out of the pre-upgrade library and have FCPX reconnect to those in whatever folder you put them in. After they’re connected you can consolidate them back into the main library if you want.
