    Hi, I just got a Ultrastudio 3D.
It has become by far the noisiest piece of gear in the room.

I was happy so see the iMac, the Pegasus, the DreamColor, all are pretty silent.
But I’ve had to hide the Ultrastudio away.

Any ideas on how to fix it?
Please think most people will buy it to have it on the table plugged to an iMac/MacBook, not on a spare room next to a MacPro…

Ultrastudio 3D’s fan is way too noisy on a constant basis, independent of the load.

Two things….driver 8.6.1 and higher have reduced the fan speed as it was excessive. This should reduce noise significantly. UNLESS!~!!

Unless the fan is being obstructed by the foam grommet that prevents vibration from the chassis. Or if the fan is failing.

In the first case the fan will be slowed down and the device will quiet. In the second two cases, the fan is being obstructed doing two things, making noise and causing the device to overheat. So if you notice the device is hot…and I mean hotter than hellfire and damnation, then that fan may be obstructed and you should contact us so we can replace it for you.

    Sincerely,

    Thanks very much Joshua.

Updating the diver did calm the fan down.

The fan is still a bit noisy, I mean it doesn’t only make the whirl of the air moving through but a bit of an electric noise…

Anyway it got a bit better with the software update, thanks!

hrm…I wouldn’t think you should hear electrical noise…I’m wondering if we still shouldn’t just replace it to make sure there’s no issue with that fan. May you can send us an audio clip we can listen to to better determine.

    Sincerely,
