The motherboard on my 2.0 GHz G5 is noisy and leaks to the internal speaker, but unfortunately also to the Decklink card on SP/DIF output. The noise appears every time I move the cursor or when there is Finder activity, a high-pitched chattering that is very disturbing. I have not tested the SDI output recently, so I don’t know what the status is there.

Is SP/DIF unbalanced and therefore prone to picking up noise? Or is this no issue with digital audio? I have a Cinewave card installed in the same machine, but no noise on any audio outputs there.

    any thoughts on the problem?

…Sorry I dont have any advice to offer, only consolation. The company I work for has a few final cut suites and we have the exact same problem, I actually didn’t think that it was the mother board or speakers…I thought it was our XRaids. I typically only hear it while in final cut, scrubbing through the timeline as you said, so I assumed the chattery noise was the multiple hard drives. I’ll have to do some experimenting disabling all monitor audio to see if my chatter behaves the same as yours.
