I have been cutting with premiere pro 1.5, still getting familiar with it…

I am about 8 mins into a 10 min clip, I hit a command that has set something, or a strange work setting in place.

    What happens is this…

I select the desired footage in the monitor then put it into the timeline and all I see is a black screen in the preview window, the sound and its waveform appear from the clip but there is no vision, at all. There is no red unrendered bar either.

I recognised this problem almost as soon as it started, then I hit undo many, many times but it seems to have nothing to do with the project histroy.

Now whenever I open this project I view what I’ve done but can’t continue nor finish until I solve this problem.

    What could it be?

    How could I solve this?

Is it possible you hit the hide video layer command?

Is the “eye” icon visible on the left side of the video track? That icon needs to be visible.

Could be something else, but that is what first comes to mind.

Sounds like a memory leakage. Does it happen right after a reboot as well?

Or a codec issue. Are these clips captured from a MiniDV clip, or downloaded from somewhere?

Yes, the eye is visible to the left of the timeline still.

Can you think of anything else that it may be?

This footage came from a MiniDV.

I shot the footage with a 3CCD MiniDV camera but have imported it with a 1 chip MiniDV / firewire arrangement direct to my computer.

Off topic for a second… could this affect the resolution or quality of my clips?

    Anyway,

I am working on a laptop and the captured footage is kept on external hard drives.

Sometimes, when I play the preview of the project, and if it is connected to ext. monitors etc. the computer suddenly stops, I get a bluescreen with white writing, I figure it crashes sometimes when it is pushed.

I’m giving my system a complete overhaul as I write. storage. defrag. virus check etc.

Yet, I know this problem has more to do with my messing around with a selected clip, I hit a command and now the whole black screen-missing fooatge but hear the sound- that won’t go away.

What commands could I have hit, what can I do to change this?

Is there a way of “cheating” the program and opening a project but then activating the initial work station settings that are preprogrammed?

    How can we solve this?
