No Video Preview
Posted by Robert Browne on February 17, 2009 at 2:17 pmEver since upgrading to Vegas Pro 8c, I’ve stopped getting video preview when I try to play a clip in the project media bin. I get audio, but no video.
Has something changed in Vegas that I don’t know about?

February 17, 2009 at 2:19 pmFrom the Vegas Pro 8 readme file:
When the Show Video Monitor button in the Trimmer window is selected, video that you preview from the Vegas Explorer and Media Manager windows is played back in the Trimmer. Because the Trimmer is placed in the same window dock as the Explorer and Media Manager, you will not see your video preview. To preview Explorer and Media Manager video, you can drag the Trimmer to a new dock group, or you can turn off the Show Video Monitor button to preview in the Video Preview window.

February 17, 2009 at 2:25 pmGlad that was the solution and yes, reading the readme files periodically does help 🙂
In this particular case though, it never bothered me as I don’t use the trimmer so I never knew about it until others started having problems. -

February 17, 2009 at 4:48 pmYeah, I never use the trimmer either. I guess it’s a good thing, but I’ve never found much use for it. Should I be using it? …. 🙂

February 17, 2009 at 5:35 pmRobert, it’s a matter of personal preference.
I had a trimmer option on my first NLE (dpsVelocity) and didn’t use it there either.
I just throw clips up on the timeline, delete what I don’t want and render.
The only times I will use it are when I’ve got analog video (i.e. no scene detection).
I’ll use the trimmer to create subclips but that’s the only use I have for it.
