  • “No Video Input” on DeckLink HD Pro – Help !!!

Posted by Matthew London on March 25, 2006 at 2:40 pm

    Hi…
I am getting a “No Video Input” display on the Blackmagic Deck Contol app, and am not able to see my video in FCP’s Log and Capture.

I know that many others have had this same problem and have read thru all the related posts here, but still cant get it to work.

    Here is the setup:
Decklink Pro HD (dual link) – Rev G
Dual 2.0 G-5 PCI-X, 4.5GB RAM, Fast SATA RAID (I’ve tried the BMD card in both the 133Mhz slot and a 100Mhz slot)
OS 10.4.4 (Tried in 10.4.5, then did a compleatly fresh install of 10.4 and updated to 10.4.4, still no luck)
FCP 5.0.4 & QT 7.0.4 (again, tried with my stable system first, then did fresh installs of both on the newly installed OS)
    Decklink 5.4.2
Deck is a Sony DVW-M2000P (Pal), connected to the Decklink via SDI. I’ve checked the cables to make sure they are good.
Deck is set to send reference signal via SDI output.
All settings in Decklink Preferences panels have been quadruple checked.

I am able to see the desktop on my external monitor, and Decklinks Color Bar test displays correctly when put in an FCP timeline.

If I monitor my deck from its own Video Monitor connection, I can see my footage, so the deck is OK. It came from my local rental house and they tested it thourougly before giving it to me.

    But still, “No Video Input”.

    HELP ! PLEASE ! I can’t think of what to try next………

    Hi,

Cehck if UMID is turned on on your deck. If it is, try turning it off. The option should be availabe in the menu.

    Hi Kristian
(just tried calling Australia, but no answer…)

    UDIM was OFF…..
    What else to try?

Also, I’m confused about something in the Connection Diagram
When I look at the Diagram for the Decklink Pro HD (Dual Link) here:
    https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/connections/index.asp?prodID=8
It shows the Input for HD/SDI 4:2:2 being in the 3rd position away from the breakout cable.

But if I click the link and download the connection diagram, on page 10, it shows the same card in Single Link mode
and indicates that the HD/SDI 4:2:2 INPUT should be on the 4th position away from the breakout cable.

Which is correct? Can I damage anything by accidentally connecting to the wrong terminal?
(for that matter, can a card be damaged if the inputs and outputs are reversed? In my desperation last night, I tried EVERYTHING !)

Waiting for your reply. Thank you……

    Hi again,

Well, I had to get some work done, so I went out and bought a new Decklink PRO card, which is working fine (at first test)
I’m rather disturbed about having to spend yet more money, but I had no choice.

So, what else can I try before I declare the HD card “broken”?

If so, what is the repair policy? How quickly can I get it fixed/replaced?

    Thanks,
    Matthew

    hi again,

    quick question about deck control.
i have some tapes where the start of the clip is 1 second after a timecode break

using a DVW-M2000P, how can I shorten the pre-roll size so the deck can get the clip
i couldnt adjust it in the capture preferences,
it is set to 3 frame.

    thanks…
