No video in the monitor played through the timeline
I continue to have problems reviewing my project Premier in the timeline when played through the sequence or timeline. I see the head of the clips,(in the timeline and the bins) however once I play the clips or my timeline, the video goes black and I only hear the audio. Also, I notice a black line through my entire project when this happens. The black line does not stay, however it is consistent with my monitor restarting and then occasionally it my system crashes. I’ve just got more ram added to my system (1.5 Gig) and I purchased a dual monitor card and a new video card. (G-Force??). Any reasons for this? I was told to import my entire project again into Premier through firewire…I did that. Things appeared to be working fine, and then when I began to make edits and replay my project, the monitor restarts, and my projects reopen with a black line and my video does not appear. Please help. I have to complete this project soon.

Lets start from scratch to diagnose this.
Open a new project (DV-NTSC) and import one DV clip into the timeline…edit it some…can you duplicate the problem? -
OK, unfortunately I’m at work and not with my system. It basically happens with every project I have in Premier. I don’t know what the deal is with this black-line. The black-line appears in my time-line, and then disappears when I re-open the project. When ofcourse I get no-video. Like I said before. The audio, even the transitions remain in place…I just lose my video.

Where did you get the video? Are you capturing it from a DV camera?

Sorry about the delayed responses. And thanks for your interest in helping me. I have two projects, captured two different ways. The 1st project I began came from files imported from DVDs. The 2nd project (Most important at this point) came from DV Capture into Adobe. Both projects, and pretty much anything I do in Premier gives me the same problem. I view the projects, make edits..add transitions…or just do nothing to my projects…play them in my timeline, or monitor for a few seconds…and then my Monitor restarts and opens with a vertical black line in my timeline (wherever in the timeline when my monitor goes black) and then I can no longer see the video, but my audio is fine. I’ve tryed my adjusting my monitors..switching monitors and using other programs that play video on my desktop. No problems in any other application. Has anyone ever experienced anything close to this?

Did you download the latest drivers for your video card? By the way, troubleshoot this with DV captured from a camera. It eliminates other issues that could cause confusion.

OK, obviously I need to be web-based to download the latest drivers huh? Right now I do not own the web at home, so I guess that’ll be an issue. It just appears to be an issue with Adobe bcause the other programs I’ve used do not perform this way. In terms of the DV capture…are there specific settings that I need in order to prevent this. Are my current projects usable at all? Thanks so much for you help. I really do appreciate it.

Premiere Pro will easily stress your harware to the maximum. SO not having the same problem with other software means nothing. I can’t imagine having a PC without Internet access, but you can always take it to work or to a friends house I would guess.
