Ok. I’m an Avid editor who got turned on to Adobe Premire Pro 2.0. I loved it so I bought cs4. Now I’m starting to regret it. I am getting no video just audio in both my source monitor and program monitor. My husbands an IT guy and has trouble shooted everything. My system is fine. Has all of the requirements. Can anyone tell me whats going on?

    Sabrina,

We’ll need a bit more info like the type of files you are editing (codec especially).

If your husband is an IT guy, I’m guessing he wouldn’t let you buy a Mac:-), but we need to confirm that as well…

Well its an uncompressed AVI file..that was made by premire pro 2.0. Nothings been done to the file I captured the video in 2.0 and just imported that raw AVI file in CS4. I just tried importing an .mov file (qucktime) done in After effects 7.0. That actually shows up but..plays like its unrendered.

I just tried recapuring 10 seconds of the footage using cs4. Captureing worked fine. I could see and hear the video in the capture screen. But…still can see it in the source monitor once it is loaded. AHHHHHH!!!! someone help.

If this is truly an uncompressed file from CS2, it should work, although there are still a few flavors of uncompressed AVI. I’ve never experienced this issue with CS4. Have you tried opening it in After Effect. If if does open you coual export as Quicktime Animation 100% vas a workaround.

Regarding your second issue, Quicktime files are non-native to Premiere so you will see a render bar. Unlike Avid, Premiere does not conform non native files to a single format, that’s why the render bar is there. No waiting is the advantage.

Most recent machines should keep up with the processing for SD without rendering though , unless you applied some heavy effects.

    What are your project settings?

    What are your capture settings?

If you are capturing uncompressed, you must have an I/O card like a Matrox Axio, AJA Xena or a Blackmagic card. If you don’t have one of these, you aren’t capturing uncompressed.

We need to know which card…and keep in mind that as far as I know, the Matrox cards are the only ones that support CS4 right now…the other drivers are still in development.

[Sabrina Xaviar] “well, I just digitized footage from my camera.”

That tells us nothing about how you did it or what you used to do it. Please answer the questions being asked of you otherwise there is no way for us to help you.

Have your husband look at these troubleshooting tips.

    Cheers
