No video in canvas or viewer, just black, audio works fine
Ok I’ve gone through and checked everything. I’ve trashed FCP’s user settings file several times, restarted the computer, restarted FCP, and no luck.
It’s complaining that my firewire device is not plugged in, but that shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve edited countless times without having my deck plugged in with no problems.
So now I have 4 hours of footage imported, but I can’t edit it because it won’t display in the viewer or the canvas.

Shane’s Stock Answer #15: White or Black Canvas
If your canvas is suddenly all white or all black, make sure the canvas or viewer are selected then go to VIEW>CHANNELS and set it to RGB. It might be set to ALPHA.
Did that work? If it did, you owe Shane lunch for the stock answer.

In the same vein, and using the same right hand pulldown in the canvas and/or viewer windows, make sure it’s set to “image” and not “wireframe”. Hope that helps…
