It makes perfect sense for what Apple is trying to achieve. The few users they lose will be overlay compensated by the millions of new users they will gain.

However, Avid and Adobe are going to get a few new users themselves now.

PS: I have been taking crap for over a year for predicting this move.

‘It makes perfect sense for what Apple is trying to achieve. ‘

But the thing is the kids use it because WE (the pros) use it and teach them how to use it…otherwise well…we wouldn’t!
It does have ‘Pro’ in the title.
I would pay twice that much for these blatantly obvious inclusions…coz hey it’s my favourite program, what I use all day, every day and I DO like the look of the new features, but now…I can’t use it after all this wait.

sorry for rant, but hey Apple has to hear this,
    Jon

I guarantee you Apple knows all of this. They tried to manage the impact to the pro market in unprecedented (for Apple) ways. A sneak peek for FCP advocate pros, another at NAB, and a seed to folks like Gary, Philip and Larry Jordan.

In the end, it comes down to your definition of “pro”. Mine is that a pro is anyone who makes a living in said profession. Apple is banking on a lot more folks making a living using FCP X. In the light of how many people all over the planet will be doing that, the tiny micro universe that we few high end pros occupy is insignificant.

I think the appropriate name for this release is Final Cut Poo.

[Terence Curren] “PS: I have been taking crap for over a year for predicting this move.”

Not really Terry. The messenger of bad news (especially where Apple is concerned) is often the only one around anyone can bitch to or bitch at.

Other than firewire, there has never been support for tape based input/output in ANY version of Final Cut.

You have always needed to buy 3rd party hardware to get any form of tape based deckcontrol or analog/sdi input and output other than firewire (which is not frame accurate)
