I am sort of new to Final Cut Pro, and i have Final Cut Pro on my Mac.

I have been set a project to create a trailer for Trainspotting which i have ripped of DVD to an .avi file.
The clip plays perfectly in VLC but as soon as i import it to Final Cut the clip plays fine but with no audio

Any help with this would be much appreciated

    Regards

FCP doesn’t like avi files. Create a Quicktime instead.

I forgot to mention that i have also tried converting it to a MP4 file which works fine out of FCP but as soon as i put it in FCP it doesnt play audio.

    Any other ideas?

MP4 is not an editing codec, it’s a Web distribution codec, so that’s strike two.

Get yourself MPEG Streamclip, it’s free and every professional FCP uses it. It allows you to rip DVDs to any QT codec available on your system. In your case that should be Export Quicktime and then choose DV, DV50, or ProRes.
