I usually blame my tools when they dont do what I want 😉 but i am aghast at how two experienced editors cannot figure out how to get beta sp into fcp. – and ive been using fcp for a year now.

we do have deck control (an 1800 deck), but no video signal coming in… we’ve tried all the doh things, like

1/checking the component cables are plugged accurately and securely into the Kona LHE breakout box
2/checking that there is something on the tape
3/ checking the Aja Control panel to see analogue inputs are component beta
4/ checking we are trying to capture using the preset Kona LH 625 25 DV and not the regular non-kona dv preset which looks for firewire

    but alas.
ive been through the 4 separate settings menus in the FCP menu, and nothing stands out, ive even made a new project based on the (so called) easy setting… but its obviously not easy enough for me!

    what am I not doing?

    Mark,

First, rule out the VTR itself. Route the input feeding the video signal to the VTR directly into a monitor to check if there is a actually signal out. If not, your BOB may be the problem. I’ve seen it many times. Find the medusa-like cable with all the connectors on it, connect that to the card and patch that directly to the monitor to check the signal first, and then to the deck once you’re sure you have a signal.

    Report back…

it worked immediately when i patched it incorrectly! oh well

[Mark Palmos] “we had some experts come in to install our new setup”

Ah, it’s always the litle things in life… Those experts might be better characterized as “so-called experts”… In any case, glad you tracked down the problem.

May I suggest that you immediately re-label those cables so that the process is not repeated by you or by someone else in the future…

    Okay, back to work…

Oh you didn’t know? You gotta pay extra to have things properly labelled and connected. That’s the “A” team and they cost more. You obviously got the “B” team that just gets in there and connects the cables on either end as quickly as possible. 🙂

The “B” team actually takes extra time to mislabel the cables, then they add that time as an extra charge on the bill, preferably as overtime.

Meanwhile, the “A” team is simply way too efficient, and are only sent out on emergencies, such as when improperly labled cables need rapid replacement.

yeah, except the cable numbering system comprises a pair of rings with a number on it, and the rings are seamless, so i guess team B put the rings on the cable before attaching the BNC connector, so they will have to undo and redo it… at least soho in london is small – easy for them to pop in and fix it.
