No matter the size or complexity of the comp (320×240 with a solid position move only for instance, runs at 13fps in 30 fps comp), I do not get realtime playback in RAM previews. It’s making me a little crazy. Relevant bits:

    – MacPro Dual Quad Core 2.66 GHz
    – ATI Radeon HD 4870
    – AJA Kona 3 – though I’m just previewing through my Apple Cinema 24″ displays
    – 4 slot eSata card and ATTO Fibre channel cards also on board.
    – The hardware configuration has not changed in a couple years.
    – Running CS5.5 Production Premium
    – I had intermittent similar issues while running CS5
    – FCS runs fine.
    – All prefs were trashed, no effect.
    – I’ve been through all of the possible processor, open GL, and adaptive res combos as suggested on the Cow and elsewhere. No effect.
    – Card config, top to bottom: AJA, eSata, Fibre, Empty, graphics

    Any thoughts…please?

the problem is most likely the aja card or software.

if you installed the aja plugins for ae, uninstall them. i also remember that they used to recommend installing the ‘ndd’ version (the version that won’t give the extra desktop monitor) for mac.

i’d also double check the slot assignment for your mac. if you can’t find documentation, just send aja support an email, they’ve been quick with replies when i’ve had questions.

Digging deeper, I found a post that suggested updating the AJA Kona Software. I switched to version 10.0.1 and everything is suddenly better. I hope this helps someone else.

    Best,
