    Hi,

NEWish to PP..am comfortabel editing etc but not understanding how to export for DVD…

Im trying to export 1440 x 1080 (1920 x 1080) sequence for DVD and do not have an MPEG 2-DVD option. Please let me know what I should do to be able to get my video onto a dvd without loosing too much quality and having the video images letterboxed.

I’ve been trying for weeks now to get this sorted and have tried many combinations. I am not sure if i now require an upgrade. I have two friends with CS5 versions and they both have MPEG 2-dvd selections- but they too don’t appear to have the MPEG 2- DVD option in their CS6 either. Is this a standard setting now, and if so what is the easiest way to make the export into DVD ?

Im trying to currently export with H.264 with 1440×1080, 25fps widescreen DV Pal 16;9 with progressive selected- and scale to fill option checked to try an avoid letter boxing and stretch.

This combination of settings has come out the closest to to what i need in terms of scaling for aspect ratio/ DVD- however its still letter boxing and with streaks through the screen (may be related to interlaced vs progressive settings…

Im totally stumped and not getting anywhere fast! My deadline was two weeks ago and any help with this is better then nothing! Thanks in advance.

Are you sending your sequence directly to Encore via dynamic link or compressing and muxing in Adobe Media Encoder first?

    HI Kris,

I have just tried sending to encore via dynamic link (where I found the MPEG 2DVD option- but now Encore is “closing unexpectedly” I have tried 4 times- not sure what to do about this.

I have in the past tried encoding via queuing (as i have needed to continue to work with PP), and have tried multiple settings but mainly H.264 (for DVD) which I have learned will not work.

Is there meant to be a MPEG 2 DVD option in CS6, and if so, how do i get it??

I am so incredibly frustrated, as I have spend hours watching tutorials, searching forums and have had no luck- and now with the sending to Encore and it failing and quitting ..i am at a loss as what to do.

Any help would be appreciated. This is my first major project and first time with adobe PP..and i have to say..the editing was fun but exporting is a complete pain in the …

    🙁

This is not part of my workflow as I don’t deliver on DVD’s much anymore, but you would export to media encoder via the queue, from the presets panel on the right choose DVD and Blu-ray and then select the preset that you want to start with. From there you can click on the slider icon at the top of the preset panel to adjust your encoding options and then save a new preset.

someone with more experience with this workflow may have some better advice. good luck.

There is a bug with CS6, ran into it last week. Where some of the presets for exporting disappeared with a certain version of CS6.

    The Fix:

Do an update of the adobe software, presets come back.

You should choose export from APP and send it to Queue. This will launch AME, there you can compress.

If you shot HD 16×9 and edited HD 16×9, then your SD DVD should be 16×9. This will fill the screen when viewing on a widescreen TV set, even playing off DVD. Yes, it will be letterbox for the 1/2 dozen or so folks left that still have a 4×3 tv set. But you will not loose and quality, where as zooming in to fill screen will.

    Hi Chris,

Many many thanks for your input, things make a lot more sense. Im unsure how to run the upgrade (sounds silly i know) and if this upgrade is for just APP or then entire cs6 suite?

To clarify- you suggesting export from APP (after the upgrades have been done) with the MPEG2 option when it returns, and then

    The Fix:

Do an update of the adobe software, presets come back.

“You should choose export from APP and send it to Queue. This will launch AME, there you can compress”

ah, apologies for this but what is AME?

My friend has just tried the upgrades on his system and it did not return the MPEG 2 option- so I’m not sure if it will bring it back on mine either.

Is there any other way to get burn to DVD with this bug unresolved?

(sorry about the double posting, I thought the no MPEG 2 option was different to aspect ratio 🙂 )won’t happen again.

Launch any CS app, like AME and choose help-updates.

O.k. Have just done complete upgrade and still no luck. bugged if i know. Still no MPEG 2 option and still not able to see upgrade drop down menu. I had to do the upgrades manually.

I can see throughout the adobe forums this is a big issue for cs6.
