  • No HD realtime RAM preview

I work on AFX 6.5, and don’t have nice realtime RAM preview, it plays only about 7/fps. My RAID subsystem is capable for >200MB read transmision, I haven’t problems with realtime playback in premiere pro 1.5. Can anybody help me?

How are you playing the preview? Don’t use the spacebar. Use the RAM preview button in the time controls palette. It’s not possible with today’s hardware to get a real-time preview. It will play at full frame rate, but you need to wait for frames to render. Check the manual for specifics.

It’s the nature of the compositing beast, unless you have $750,000 worth of Discreet hardware.

If you’re still having trouble, get back to us.

The problem is still here. I know that After FX isn’t a real time solution. So I mentoined about problem with the RAM PREVIEW. In my Standard Resolution workstation there is no problem, whet I hit the (numpad) ENTER green line appears over the timeline and rendered to RAM material is played smoothly with desired FPS. In HD station hitting the enter speeds playback from about 2fps till 7FPS but there is still no realtime playback (RAM PREVIEW).

No need for nasty caps, radek. You mentioned the “realtime RAM preview”, and there’s no such thing, as you just confirmed in your second post. You compared AE’s playback to Premiere Pro, so I assumed you came from an editing background. Many editors assume that hitting the spacebar starts a preview in AE. 🙂

Did you try hitting the 0 key on the numeric keypad, with numLock on?
Did you try hitting the RAM preview button on the time controls window?

I didn’t named my pproblem correctly. SO there is an explanation.
I know that AFX isn’t realtime, but normaly in my PAL workstation when I hit 0 (numpad), computer renders preview and AFTER RENDERING plays in realtime (25FPS).
THe problem is in my second – brand new workstation. WHen I hit 0 (numpad) to render preview green bar appears over the timeline (rendered frames are loded to RAM) but …. during playback i get only 6,8 FPS. (resolution HD 1920×1080) not desired 24 or 25 FPS.
I repeat, problem appears ONLY in my HD station with HD resolution

    I don’t know why…

Have you tried the exact same project in both workstations? All settings exactly the same? What happens?

We need to find out what is different between the two situations.
