I have just updated two edit systems with dual 2.5 ghz processors to the latest version of everything.
Mac OS10.4.4 FCP 5.04 QT 7.04 and Decklink 5.4. I did a clean install but when in log and capture although i can see the video playing from a Sony UVW1800P beta SP player/recorder I have a “no communication” message at the bottom of the window and no control of the deck. I can play and “capture now’ though and this deck worked fine in Panther with previous decklink drivers and FCP 4.5.

I have been told the deckling drivers wrre written for OSC 10.4.3 and that this might be the issue.

Anybody got any idea about this it does seem buggy to me

I have same problem with RS422 on MB Extreme (OS X10.4.4+MB Extreme 5.2.3). But with mu keyspan (USB to RS422) all things work fine. I wait answer from BMD 3 days – nothing . . .

I’m not sure what you mean by “mu keyspan (USB to RS422)”??…I think there must be an issue with 10.4.4 but I reinstalled OS10.4.1 and the latest drivers did not control the deck with FCP 5.01 so I have upgraded the system to the latest version of everything as that is what they always ‘recommend’.

I have had a reply from BM but all they suggested was ‘create a new user account’ and see if the problem is still there (of course it is still there..a new user account is no help!) and ‘run repair disk permissions’ – which made no difference at all.

I hope they issue a patch very soon.

What deck are you using? I am using a SonyUVW1800P

    Did you follow the instructions?
Did you go to the BMD website and download the installer?
Do you have a 9 pin RS422 deck?
Do you have a proper cable?
The deck control works from the 9 pin control connector on the Multibridge, not the USB ports on the computer

Is this your first time setting up something of this level or are you a firewire person?

Im’ work with editing on Mac about 5 years. I began with CineWave 1.0 and FCP 1.2.5. I know what is that RS422, Deck control, cables and moch more . . .
And what do You think – How I installed drivers and got picture if I didn’t download Installer?

To factualfilms – I mean that I connected my VTR via Keyspan USB to RS422 Adapter – I use it about 4 years and it work fine always. My VTR is Sony SRW-5500

I think he may have been asking me…anyhow I can’t even get the deck to work with the decklink’s own controller so I am going to try another RS422 cable as suggested by BM and see what happens next.

I think it may be my deck but seems unusual as it was all working fine in 10.3.8 with FCP 4.5 and previosu decklink drivers.

All very tedious I mus say and i hope the solution is simple

I am not poking fun at anyone, just going over the basics to make sure some item wasn’t overlooked. We are not informed as to how much experience the users have so we have to start at the bottom and work up from there.

Many times, a simple cable will be the problem. They can work one day and not the next.

A few times I have found that my final cut system doesn’t want to recoginze deck control.
    Trash final cut Pro prefs.
    Use FCP Rescue.

I have found when switching back and forth between firewire and rs422 deck control that sometimes it gets stuck.
I just delete my prefs with FCP rescue and that fixes it.

Thanks I had this problem too and found by selecting a dirrent capture input seting (such as BM 8 bit) it kind of forced FCP to remember there was a different deck in play in even I was in fact using BMDV for everything which I was doing.

It’s almost understandable though isn’t it…for once I kind of sympathise with the software.

It’s as if it’s saying “make your mind up – which deck do you want to use”
