  • No Codec Options for Animation Export From Premiere Pro CS5

I’m still using Final Cut Pro. But, I love the Ultra keyer in Premiere Pro. Thought I’d repost this question to see if anyone has an answer:

I have the CS5 Master Collection on my Mac Pro (OS 10.5.8) and am having a problem exporting an Animation with Alpha from Premiere Pro.

When I choose Export, then select Media, then select QuickTime, then select Animation for the video codec, the Codec Settings box is grayed out. Also, when I choose the Animation Codec, I have no way of changing the size of the exported video, either. The output is showing 720×480, instead of the full 1440 x 1080 size of the original sequence, and there is no option available to change the size. Am I missing something?

I’ve tried exporting directly out of Premiere. I’ve also tried putting it in the render cue through the Adobe Media Encoder. I see the same issue in both methods.

I’d like to use the Ultra plugin in Premiere for my green screen keying (because it’s so stinking easy to use), then export the keyed clips, including Alpha to an Animation file with Millions of Colors +. I can then take that file into Final Cut (my preferred editing system) for further editing. Can’t seem to find a way to do it other than exporting a PNG sequence, which gives me aspect ratio problems in the final file.

    Any solutions?

Try these settings, the red box indicates settings I manually set up myself. Including the Frame Dimensions, you can reenter them and unlock the aspect ratio link.

Let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,

I’m having the same problem getting to the Alpha setting with Codec Settings greyed out. Did you ever find a solution to this?

    Thanks!

Sorry, Cody. I never got a solid answer to that question. I was experimenting with Premiere back then. I went back to using Final Cut, but I haven’t been doing much editing over the last year or two. I’m working more as a creative director type now. If you find an answer, please let me know.

    Here’s the solution, and it’s a little strange: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1687056

Long story short, rendering at 32 bit depth automatically ~includes~ an alpha channel. I’m use to the After Effects Language of RGB+Alpha but I tested this using Ultra Key and it worked!
