  • NO AUDIO when I “Edit to Tape”

Posted by Jd7373 on April 13, 2007 at 8:53 pm

We currently Master all our spots to BETA SP. When using the “Edit to tape” feature FCP 5 will insert the video but not the audio. (In fact it leaves the “tone” from the striped tape). We are using BlackMagic for our Deck Control.

I feel I’ve exhausted all my options while trouble-shooting. Am I missing some simple setting?

    Thanks,
    JD

This may be a stupid question, but in the “Edit to Tape” window, did you tell it that you want to do video and audio. Next to the video icon, there is an audio channel icon which tells it which channels you want to output.
You also haven’t really said what trouble-shooting you have done. Can you do an assemble edit and have the audio channels go to tape?

I did check the audio channels I needed on the “Edit to tape” window. As far as trouble shooting goes…I’ve went through other FCP forums, the FCP manual, spoke with the tech who set up the system, etc.

I am able to see levels on my BETA deck and I can crash record onto the BETA and I do get audio that way. It seems like a setting that I am just missing somewhere and the frustration of feeling like a pretty big tool is starting to set in.

Did you solve this problem? One day I was doing edit to tape with audio on a project. Today it won’t record audio.

Yes, we just figured it out. Under your “Audio/Video Settings” you need to check your “Device Control Presets”. In your Summary area check your audio device control mapping. Mine had switched to 8 channels and it needed to be 2. Even though I changed it in the other “windows” it was still showing 8 Channels in there. Once we switched that I had no troubles.

Let me know if that works for you.

    Good Luck!

Thank you, thank you. Can you hear the emotion in my voice? We thought we had tried everything. FCP Rescue didn’t restore ALL the settings…
