This is very basic but some how I lost the audio waves display in the timeline.

The triangle is clicked to expand the audio track and the little Set Display Style is set to Show Waveform. But there is no waveform. I have the manual right in front of me and cannot see what I am doing wrong. I used to have it but somehow lost it. I also only show a single (mono) track instead of the stereo. I am at a loss and would like to know where the button is that I must have accidently hit that shuts off my waveform display.
Edit: I guess it does show two channels with a yellow line separting the two channels but definately no waveform.

I went into Project Settings and Preferences and see nothing out of order there. Can some one help”?

Eddie, thanks but none of those options changed anything. Its not just this project, I noticed that I didn’t have a soundtrack waveform on my past few projects. Its a real pain not having it.

    Is this CS3 or CS4?

I have noticed that occasionally there is audio but no waveforms…I think it can happen occasionally with very low levels. Have you scaled the track waaaay up to see if there’s anything there at all?

…if not, I’m wondering what might happen if you went into your Media Cache Files folder and trashed the .pek file?

Perhaps it’s cranky and needs a nap.

Tim, the audio levels are plenty high enough. They should be showing a waveform. I also scaled the time line to single frame and everything in between.
As far as the Media Cache files, I didn’t see a .pek file but under Preferences I clicked on “Clean”. It didn’t seem to help either. I’ll try restarting the program again and see if that helps.

[Tim Kolb] “Perhaps it’s cranky and needs a nap.”

    But I just had one…oh, Premiere Pro…never mind. 😛

Ted, here are a few more troubleshooting tips.

    Cheers

Eddie, it might just be easier to uninstall Premiere and start over but then I would still not know what caused me to lose the waveforms.

It’s entirely up to you whether or not you want to get to the bottom of the problem or not.

As the Web site says, being methodical pays off in time.

    Cheers

You made your point. Its like taking castor oil though.
I have gone through many of the steps listed. The first step was to remove all beta Premiere software. I have CS3. I don’t think I have any beta stuff on my computer.
I also contacted Adobe Support in the hopes that they might know what the problem is.

I do appreciate all your help and suggestions.

    UPDATE:
I just uninstalled Premiere and then reinstalled it, imported a clip, placed it on the timeline and, and, and, no waveform.
I really don’t get it now. But maybe that will give some one a clue as to what the problem is. Complete reinstall of Premiere CS3 and still no waveform. Anybody?

I just had a break through but not a fix. I imported an mp3 file and the waveform showed up in both the preview and the time line. All worked fine.
Then I tried a movie clip with the .wav and it did not show up. Sound was present but no waveform.

Does that help anyone figure this out????

    Please, I’m going crazy.
