Has anyone noticed a slower performance in the Avid interface with Nitris DX than Adrenaline? I know all this should be based on the software and not the hardware because the software is, of course the same between the two boxes. However, after switching from my old MC Adrenaline version 2.8 to my new, and VERY expensive Nitris DX box with version 3.1.1 software, there are soooooooo many things that seem to run much more “sluggish” than on the old system. I was originally running on a Powermac G5, dual 2gig processors, 2gig RAM and now on a MacPro 8 core with 16 gigs of RAM. Let me precisely describe a couple of issues. First off, it’s not the playback of my media that is the problem. It’s the interface itself. Like when switching between applications, i.e. Avid to After Effects and then back again, when I bring Media Composer back in front of me, every little damn button and icon on the interface “re draws” it self on the screens and it can sometimes take up to 5 seconds for the interface to be ready for functionality. Sure 5 seconds is not that long to wait but that lag in responsiveness should not even exist in the first place. Anyone have this trouble? Also the audio waveforms now take EVEN LONGER than before to draw!

Finally, for as long as I can remember, when selecting a clip in the timeline using one of the segment tools, either the lift or extract tool, it would highlight the selected clip in pink. Alternately, when “marking” a clip with in and out points the clip would be highlighted in purple. Now ALL I get is purple!!! It is confusing because every time I select a clip I think that it is marked with ins and outs. I am constantly clearing my marks where non exist! Not to mention that when Effect Edit mode it is purple instead of pink. This “upgrade” in the software is completely useless. I know this is petty but it’s annoying the crap out of me. Does anyone know how tho get the old segment mode color, the pink hue, back? I have looked all through the interface color setting and cannot find an option to change this, Thanks fellow bovines.

There is now way that Nitris DX is slower than Adrenaline. Something isn’t kosher in your setup.

Did you follow the install directions exactly?

I wasn’t too happy with the changed interface coloring in v3 either when it arrived last year.
If you go to Project-Settings-Interface you can customize the colors back to whatever you like them to be.
The slowness you describe does not sound normal. Must something odd in the setup. On Win systems there apparently is a conflict with certain versions of Wacom tablet drivers. Might be something similar on your Mac?

Indeed install was exactly to specs. I’m curious if it has something to do with my computer. However, no other applications give me this problem. I remember on my old system that there was a specified amount of RAM recommended. I think it was 2gigs. As mentioned before now I have 16gigs. Do you think that could have something to do with it? I would certainly think not.

Still even though you can change to colors in you Interface settings there is no way to differentiate the colors between “marked” clips using in/outs, and “selected” clips using the segment mode tools. Am I missing something? I use to have a different color for each of these selection methods.

I’m pretty sure I got those back to their original colors. Not in front of my systems now, though, and no easy access to pre-3.x versions anymore.
