My company is trading in our SD Adrenaline box for the Nitris DX system. We shoot with a JVC GY-HD200. This camera is native 720p and we ingest footage with a JVC BR-HD50. The deck has component, Y/C, and IEEE1394 I/O’s but we are planning on purchasing a component to SDI converter for the deck. That said, in order to maintain the best quality, will the SD SDI I/O’s on the Nitris DX box maintain the source resolution or should we be capturing via firewire? I do not wee a firewire input on the Nitris box. Also, should we be ingesting via the HD SDI? Thank and sorry for my lameness. -Justin

not a lame question. If I were you, I would buy the AJA HD10AVA, convert your analog Y Pb Pr and analog audio from your JVC BR-HD50U to HD-SDI, and you are in business ! People make fun of this VTR, but I think it’s one of 2 HDV VTR’s on the market that actually work (the other is the expensive Sony HVR-1500A).

If you want to spend less money, you can get the Blackmagic Design Analog to Digital mini converter, which will do the same job for $300 less, (but I have not personally tried it yet).

The Nitris DX has component I/O for SD or HD, so there’s no need to get a separate component to SDI converter for the deck.

    Hi Craig –
will the Nitris DX accept an analog HD component signal ? I thought it did not do this. Perhaps I am wrong. I can assure you that the AVID Adreanline and AVID Mojo SDI does not accept an analog HD component signal.

Please verify your statement, and report back here. I would love to know the correct answer.

    Craig –
you were right, and I was WRONG. The AVID Nitris DX apparantly does have analog HD component inputs (it can be switched), so if you have a JVC BR-HD50U, you do not need an AJA or Blackmagic converter to get the HD signal into this product – all you need is the Nitris DX box.

    You were right !

Bob, so will the analog component outputs of the JVC-BRHD50U carry and HD signal? I guess I’m a little confused if that component serves as both an SD and HD output. I really appreciate you guys. Thanks for all your help.

yes – the analog component outs of the JVC BRHD50U will provide both standard def, AND Hi def analog outputs. It is YOUR JOB to READ THE MANUAL on this VTR, and PLAY WITH THE MENUS on this VTR, to figure out how to change the CAV output from 480i (standard def) to 720p (hi def).
