    Hi Guys…

The Nikon ad campaign for the D90 camera got my attention.

Not only is it an awesome still camera…

but it shoots 720P, granted it is compressed (MJPEG)…

but with interchangeable glass it ought to me for some pretty impressive imagery.

Wondering if anyone else thought this was as cool as I did for the price point.

    Might be an incredible value…

the clips on the site look pretty cool…

There has been an ongoing debate about using still cameras for shooting HD, but it’s just not practical. The simple answer is that they are not designed for video. While they can work in some situations, the format as you mentioned is the first big issue.

Then there’s usually no quick white balancing, and of course if you need on board audio, you’re out of luck.

You also can’t preview HD to an external monitor, making semi-pro or pro work impossible. Finally you are stuck with one speed funky zoom and not remote of any kind.

But if you are only doing film style shooting I guess it could be useful.
