  • Nightmare on trimming.

Posted by Fredy Schwerdtner on August 19, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Today for the first time I decided to give a chance to X and after a rough cut I went to the timeline to edit more precisely the clips and I couldn’t just do it. Moreover, I had to add a transition between 2 clips, but I wanted to do it only on the video “track”, not on audio and I didn’t find a way to do it …..
Does anybody know how to accomplish it ?

Select the two clips press Control-S to expand them. Select the edit point. [ key. Apply the transition. Collapse the audio with Control-S.

    All the best,

Why not? Just curious. What did you try?

I’m curious too, because timeline trimming is actually very similar to FCP7, with even some improved tools for topping and tailing.

I have found the trimming in FCP X to be far superior to any NLE I have ever used.

    by about a mile.

Is there supposed to be a smiley face after that?

I agree. Trimming is a breeze. If there’s a smiley, it’s probably true happiness.

You don’t like it, Tom? Just asking.

I do actually. I was just reacting to the hyperbole. The timeline trimming I like a lot. Not so wild about the precision editor. Like the display. Like the way it works in the timeline, but I think the controls need a little development. Simple I/O to change the edit would make it more fluid. Dynamic trimming here would be useful.

[Tom Wolsky] ” I was just reacting to the hyperbole. “

    Got ya! 🙂 😀 😎 or something

[Tom Wolsky] “Not so wild about the precision editor”

Me neither, seems unnecessary really, or I guess just “not my style”. That’s cool, though.

[Tom Wolsky] “Simple I/O to change the edit would make it more fluid.”

Totally, but the trim end/beginning/to selection is very nice.

I do want a trim and leave gap option though. I mentioned this in another thread, there should be some sort of gap modifier key, you hold a modifier and it leaves a gap in it’s wake, whether you’re dragging, cutting, anything you can’t do with the position tool alone.

    Yes. Yes.

    A big fat smile.

I like the prescision editor because of what I see when it is open.

It’s easy enough to trim things up after using the prescision editor.

Overall the trimming in FCP X is very slick.

    I like it a lot.

    🙂
