August 20, 2011 at 10:56 pmI agree on the trimming, however I am having difficulty once a transition has been applied. I have trouble selecting one end of a clip to shorten or lengthen.
I still miss the extend edit from FC7. The shift-x extend in fcx doesn’t quite work the same. Perhaps because it snaps to the skimmer and it’s difficult to keep that thing in one place.

I’m calling it FCX. They took the “pro” out, so I will too.
I’ll reconsider after the first upgrade.Mark Morache

August 20, 2011 at 11:06 pmAfter having been on Avid for more than a decade and then working with FCP legacy for nearly as long, after 10 years or so, I still didn’t think its trimming was as useful as Avid. FCPX trimming is a major improvement. Apple still has some more things to do for sure but I think they’re finally headed in a good direction with timeline trimming and precision editor. I’m really hoping that improving some of the audio functions are high on their priority list. I really want that two up to work with keyboard trimming.

August 20, 2011 at 11:06 pmAt the top of the transition there is a bar. It has three grab points, one on each end to ripple, one in the middle to to roll. You can select any of the three with the appropriate shortcut and use the judge keys or ripple or roll numerically.
All the best,
Tom

The skimmer does take precedence over the playhead, so you might want to try and use the playhead and turn the skimmer off for moves like that. Simply click where your skimmer is to move the playhead there, then ‘s’ to turn it off.
Might take a minute to get used to, but it’s powerful and quick, or as some who might not like the software might call it “unusable”. ;-). Sorry, couldn’t resist.
