I would like to use my Sony NEX-VG30 with my HI-Pod (30 ft. monopod) but when connecting the camera to the external monitor via A/V R I can’t get the camera’s LCD display functions (STBY/REC, Battery or MIN) to display, just the picture. Any ideas on how I can go into the settings and change this?If my Sony HDR-XR200 can be set to display on the external monitor, surely this better camera can as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the VG30 is a pro-sumer camera at best and does not support the view finder (VF/LCD) output setting you are seeking. The VG30 suppresses sending the camera data down the A/V connector :-(.

I would contact Sony to see if there is a way to enable it through some Easter Egg type of functionality or combination of button presses that service personnel would use.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 12 (x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

I believe that Nigel is correct, unfortunately. I own the VG10 and LCD functionality doesn’t appear on external monitors.

    Hi Brian,
I own a VG-10 and we have been able to use the HDMI out to a rented Marshall 7 inch monitor that had a through connection. We could then connect an additional monitor to the Marshall’s output for the director. The LCD would be disabled, but we could still get 2 monitors working to frame the shot. Not sure of the Marshall model number. I would bring the camera in to a rental house or big dealer and try it. Hope this helps.

Does the LCD touchscreen still work when using an external monitor?
