  • Newscutter importing P2 files that don’t exist or are deleted/deleting files(?)

Very odd occurrence this week as I had two students who had media offline and when I investigated, their hard drive section under the text view was empty. A little more digging on one of the students external drives by our IT guy confirmed that the files were deleted, but both students swear they didn’t delete any media when they moved the files from P2 card to the fat32 formatted side of their external drives via P2 viewer.

As if that wasn’t enough, one of our Newscutters is importing footage that does not exist. One of the students had 6000+ files imported to her bin, all but 12 which weren’t her files were listed as offline. I reformatted the P2 fat32 side of one of the student’s hard drive, had her move clips via P2 viewer to the “P2 side” of her hard drive… so there should have only been 12 clips. On import P2 to bin over 6000 files were imported again. She then took the same hard drive to another system and only her 12 clips imported. I took my external drive which had footage on it, and on the “possessed” machine got the same result of 6000 files importing… and all of them save for the 12 are offline and have the designated hard drive in the text view as blank.

Has anyone experienced any of this phenomena before?

    Thanks in advance.

For the lost files in your P2 card, you can do a little research in google, you have sotware to recover data from your P2 card, like the usb keys.
